"Would you come back here?!" Darkwing yelled, panting. He had been chasing Negaduck all night long, and was quite frankly exhausted.
"No!" Negaduck yelled, too exhausted himself to think of anything more creative. He vaulted over the gap between two roofs, barely making what should've been an easy jump.
"Come on!" Darkwing muttered, freezing on the other side of the gap. He'd never admit it, but he was much too tired to make it across. "You haven't even committed any crimes, what's the point of all this?"
Negaduck checked his watch, collapsing to the ground in relief, panting harder. "To... distract.. you."
"Distract me?!" Darkwing jumped to the other roof, adrenaline washing away his tiredness. Negaduck had used distractions in his plans before, but he himself was never the distraction. "From what?"
"We need to get to the bridge." Negaduck stumbled to his feet, holding out his hands and passively allowing himself to be cuffed. It was more terrifying then anything else he'd ever done.
The Ratcatcher zoomed through the streets, Negaduck calmly taking a nap in the sidecar. Darkwing could barely think straight, filled with worry. Gosalyn was spending the night in the hideout, which meant that the Fearsome Four could already have her.
The Ratcatcher approached the secret entrance, which was ajar with burn marks around it. Darkwing parked inside, roughly shaking Negaduck awake and dragging him up the tower to the main lair.
Before actually entering the main room, Darkwing pushed his beak close to Negaduck's. "If any of them have laid a single hand on Gosalyn, I'll-"
"I know." Negaduck said calmly, looking in Darkwing's eyes with uncharacteristic understanding. "Don't worry, Dipwing. If one of my goons hurt her, I'd beat them up myself."
Darkwing sighed, then opened the door to a dark room. The lights switched on to reveal the Fearsome Four, Honker, Launchpad, and Gosalyn. Every surface was covered in decorations, snacks, and party favors.
"What...?" Darkwing choked. "I don't understand."
"APRIL FOOLS!" Everyone present, including Negaduck, shouted.
"I win the bet!" Gosalyn yelled happily, running to hug her father. "Told you I could prank you first! You owe me a Monster Wreckerz 17 account, ha."
"But it's not April 1st yet." Darkwing half-heartedly complained, hugging Gosalyn tightly. She was safe.
"Check the time, Dipwing." Negaduck rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, DW." Launchpad held up a clock, grinning. "It's been April for ten minutes now."
"But why would you guys help?" Darkwing asked the Fearsome Five.
"The Boss was settling a debt." Liquidator answered.
"Besides, we're kinda fond of the kid." Megavolt was nibbling a slice of half-burned cake. He paused, scratching his head. "...I think."
"Your brat helped me get visitation rights with my brat." Negaduck explained, picking the lock on his handcuffs and joining his lackeys. "So we're doing a one-day truce. Enjoy it."
"And she got Quackerjack to agree to leave us alone for the day." Bushroot added, watching the jester stuffing candy in his mouth. "Honestly, that alone is worth this."
"Did you like my prank, dad?" Gosalyn asked, suddenly looking uncertain.
"If you ever scare me that badly again, young lady, you're grounded for life." Darkwing told her sternly. This his face softened. He reached down and hugged her. "But, yeah, Goz. I loved it, you clever girl."
